According to statistics from the Department of Overseas Labor Management under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the number of 10,028 workers sent abroad in April doubled compared with March.
The South Korean market is currently leading with about 4,600 workers, while in March there were only 1,563 workers. Taiwan received 3,194 workers, Malaysia 763 workers, and Japan nearly 600 workers. Thus, by the end of April, the total number of Vietnamese workers sent abroad reached 30,000, one-third of whom were women.
According to Mr. Dao Cong Hai, Deputy Director General of the Department of Overseas Labor Management, from the perspective of state management, the target of sending 87,000 workers abroad in 2011 can still be achieved. This is because the number of workers going to Libya was only about 5,000 per year. Meanwhile, only in the Libyan market did workers have to return home before the end of their contracts, while other markets in the region have not been affected.
In addition, several traditional markets such as South Korea, Malaysia, and Taiwan (China) are expected to receive more Vietnamese workers in the coming time.
Mr. Dao Cong Hai said that the Malaysian market will be given greater focus because the country currently has very high labor demand. There are currently about 100,000 Vietnamese workers working in this market.
The Department of Overseas Labor Management has worked with the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources and received information that Malaysia has recently decided to allow its enterprises to recruit 45,000 foreign workers in 2011, including workers for hotels.
Currently, the Department of Overseas Labor Management is implementing training and orientation education policies for workers going abroad for employment. At the same time, it is directing enterprises to cooperate with schools to promote vocational training under a bidding mechanism, ensuring training is provided for the right needs and funding is allocated properly, focusing on high-tech occupations such as foremen, nursing staff, welders, and construction workers to meet regional and international standards.
To ensure competitiveness, workforce training is very important. Therefore, together with promoting vocational schools to strengthen training at 170 institutions under the bidding mechanism, the Department of Overseas Labor Management will quickly implement the construction of a vocational training facility for overseas workers in Thanh Hoa, funded by the UAE, with a capacity of about 500 trainees.
