On the afternoon of February 8, 2014, Package No. 1 of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Construction Project was awarded by Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) to a consortium of domestic contractors, namely Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No. 5 (Cienco 5) and Cienco1, with a winning bid price of VND 2,133 billion, including taxes and fees.
Package No. 1 has the route section from Km0+00 (intersecting with National Highway 14B) to Km8, passing through Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City. It will be built to Class A expressway standards, with a design speed of 100–120 km/h.
Under the signed contract, the Cienco5 - Cienco1 consortium will have 1,080 days to complete the package, with earthwork volume of more than 4.6 million m3; more than 137 thousand m3 of crushed stone aggregate; 117 thousand m3 of various types of asphalt concrete; and nearly 16 thousand m of bored piles. In Package No. 1, the contractors will have to treat 6.3 km out of 8 km of soft ground; build 7 bridges with a total length of 903 m, 11 box culverts for local roads, etc.
“The contractors need to quickly organize their executive management board to immediately commence construction on site,” requested Mr. Mai Tuan Anh, General Director of VEC.
The Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project is part of the North - South Expressway route approved for investment by the Ministry of Transport under Decision No. 2656/QD-BGTVT dated September 10, 2010. The project has a total length of nearly 140 km, including an expressway section of approximately 131.5 km and a connecting section to National Highway 1A of approximately 8.02 km.
The project is designed to 4-lane expressway standards, with a roadbed width of 26 m, asphalt concrete pavement, a design speed of 120 km/h for Class A expressways, together with bridges, interchanges, underpasses, drainage culverts and underground works.
The total investment of the entire Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project is VND 27,968 billion, equivalent to USD 1.472 billion, using loans from JICA, the World Bank and counterpart funding from the Government of Vietnam.
